How do I connect using WiFi?

Here are the basic steps needed:

  1. Launch PdaNet and make sure WiFi router mode is enabled.
  2. On the computer create an ad-hoc (aka peer-to-peer) WiFi network and connect to it.
  3. On the iPhone go to Settings->WiFi and you should see the ad-hoc network name of your computer, tap on it to connect.
  4. On the iPhone launch PdaNet and if the above WiFi connection is truly successful, you should see a screen with number of bytes transferred. Otherwise WiFi connection has failed and you should scroll down and read the trouble-shooting section below.

How do I create an ad-hoc network on my computer?

*In each of the following instructions WEP network key is optional but strongly recommended. Without it all computers/iPhones nearby could potentially connect to your computer AND your iPhone!

On Windows XP,

  1. Go to Control Panel->Network Connections, then right click on Wireless Network Connection and select Properties from the menu.
  2. Select Wireless Networks tab, under Preferred networks, click Add.
  3. Give a name to your network in the SSID box such as “iPhoneNet”.
  4. Check “This is a computer-to-computer (ad-hoc) network and select “OK” to close the settings.
  5. Now on your iPhone go to Settings->WiFi and “iPhoneNet” should show up in the list unless your computer is already connected to a router. Tap on it and your computer should go online.

On Mac,

  1. Click on the Airport icon at the top of the screen.
  2. Select Create Network, give it a name such as “iPhoneNet”.
  3. Now on your iPhone go to Settings->WiFi and “iPhoneNet” should show up in the list. Tap on it and your computer should go online.

On Vista,

  1. Right click on the network tray icon at the bottom of the screen.
  2. Select “Connect to a network”, then “Set up a connection or network”.
  3. Select “Set up a wireless ad hoc network and “Next”, then enter a Network name such as “iPhoneNet”. Also check “Save this network”.
  4. Now on your iPhone go to Settings->WiFi and “iPhoneNet” should show up in the list. Tap on it and your computer should go online.

How do I connect using USB? Will USB Mode support Mac?

To connect in USB Mode, you need to install a client software called PdaNet Desktop on Windows. You can download it from http://www.junefabrics.com/bin/iPhone150.exe. The PdaNet Desktop client also requires iTunes to be installed and working in the first place. Now on the iPhone launch PdaNet and switch to USB Mode from settings. Once this is on, PdaNet allows you to connect even when running in the background.

To start the connection, simply plugin your iPhone and double-click the PdaNet tray icon (or right click and select Connect from the menu).

For Mac platform your current option is to install the PdaNet Desktop client through VMWare/Parallel or BootCamp. Otherwise you will have to connect using WiFi. In the future we will try to build a Mac version of the desktop client but that won’t be available any time soon.

I received USB connection error “Unable to start service err=0xE8000065″ or “Iphone system has not been paired”.

Please make sure the latest iTunes has been installed and it can Sync with your iPhone without any issues.

On Vista when connecting USB mode PdaNet crashes and gives me an error “PdaNetPC.exe has stopped working”.

You got this error because some necessary system services have been turned off on your computer after Vista/XP is installed (either by you or by your system administrator) and PdaNet is not allowed to create a dialup connection. To fix this, go to Control Panel on your computer, select Administrative Tools then Services and turn back on all the Dialup or Remote connection related services (In particular one named “Remote Access Service”).

How to Unlock your Iphone

Wednesday, May 6th, 2009

If your phone meets the following requirements it can be unlocked:
1. Jailbroken
2. OS 2.2
3. Baseband 2.28 or earlier

If you have met these requirements you need to open cydia and install the program “yellowsn0w”. You can download it by adding the yellowsn0w repo to your Cydia sources.

The repo URL is http://apt9.yellowsn0w.com.

once you have downloaded yellowsn0w and installed you are ready to use your iphone on any GSM carrier.

If you have 2.2.1 your options are as follow:
If your phone has the latest firmware 2.2.1 and was jailbroken using quickPWN and has boot loader 5.09 your pretty much SOL.

if your phone was jailbroken with quickPWN but has bootloader 5.08 you may be in luck.

if your phone was jailbroken with PwnageTool and had the firmware customized and retained the baseband just install and run yellowsn0w.

if your phone was jailbroken with PwnageTool and didnt retain the baseband but has bootloader 5.08 you may be in luck.

If you are using 2.2.1 with the latest baseband and have have bootloader 5.08 your are in luck, you can downgrade the baseband using a simple tool “3G Fuzzyband Downgrader” that is available through cydia. If you have bootloader 5.09 you can download this and attempt to downgrade your baseband but you will just get a you fail message [actually tells you if your capable of downgrading when you open it now]. Once you have downgraded your baseband just install “yellowsn0w” and your unlocked using 2.2.1

If you are unfortunate enough to have 5.09 and 2.2.1 you are still able to unlock your phone using a periphial device such as a turbo sim, rebel sim or equivalent.

Disclaimer – Neo Rabid Software does not take any responsibility for any problems/issues/bricking/etc. that may occur while using this software to modify your iPhone. Please be aware of what you are doing.

This guide will show you how to jailbreak the iPhone 3g only, not the first generation iPhone. Some important notes before we begin: You must have iTunes 8 installed and you must be on firmware 2.2.1, if you are not, be sure to update via iTunes. Also make sure to go into the task manager and disable ANYTHING Apple or iTunes related.

Let’s get started, after the jump!

1. Get the tools.

Once you are positive you are running the 2.2.1 on your iPhone 3G and have iTunes 8 installed it’s time to get the tools you will need. Create a folder on your desktop named “Pwnage”, then download the following files into that folder.

Once you have downloaded the above files you should unzip the QuickPwn zip file inside the Pwnage folder you just created.

2. Launch QuickPwn

This should be simple enough no? Launch QuickPwn from the folder you extracted it to on your desktop.

3. Connect your iPhone 3G

Connect your iPhone 3G via USB to your computer and click the blue arrow to continue.

4. Locate Firmware

Now we have to click the browse button to locate your iPhone 3G firmware.

5. Selecting the 2.2.1 firmware IPSW

Select the 2.2.1 firmware IPSW file from the Pwnage folder you created on your desktop then select the IPSW file and click the open button.

6. Firmware Verification

QuickPwn will now verify you have selected the correct firmware. After it is verified click the blue arrow to continue.

7. Customize your firmware

This step allows you select what you’d like installed on your iPhone. You have the ability to select Cydia, Installer, and replace boot logos. Once you have made your selections click the blue arrow to continue on. If you want a full jailbreaking experience, installing Cydia and Installer is highly recommended.

8. Verify connection

QuickPwn will noW verify that your iPhone 3G is still connected to your PC. Again click the blue arrow to continue your journey…

9. Potential Tricky Part – Pay Attention

Ok, this part seems to give some people issues, but I assure you it does work. QuickPwn will now put your iPhone 3G into recovery mode. When its in recovery mode you will be given directions to: Hold the Home button for 5 seconds, Hold the Home and Power buttons for 10 seconds, then release the Power button and continuing holding the Home button until your iPhone is in DFU mode.

10. Let the jailbreaking begin – no going back now!

QuickPwn will detect your phone is in DFU mode and proceed with the jailbreaking process.

11. You are officially jailbroken – Congrats!

Well that’s it folks, it’s time to start exploring this whole new world you have just opened.
